Holding a painting exhibition for a 90-year-old man can also be regarded as a review of Chinese art in the 20th century. From July 26th to 31st, "Yanhan Art Research Exhibition-90-year-old Retrospect" will be held at the National Art Museum of China.

Yanhan is a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, born on July 29, 1916 in Lianyungang, Jiangsu. In his youth, Yan Han had a strong spirit of resistance. From his middle school age, he began to organize a student wave to oppose the Kuomintang’s non-resistance policy in the war against Japan. As a result, he was expelled from the school and entered the National Hangzhou Art Museum with the support of his uncle. Specializing in painting. The Anti-Japanese War broke out in 1937. Yan Han defected to Yan'an in 1938. After studying in Lu Yi for three months, he went to the front line of the Anti-Japanese War in the Taihang Mountains, fighting death every day. During this period, Yan Han created countless works reflecting the frontal battle against the Japanese army: "When the enemy searches for the mountains", "Don't let the enemy take food", "The Five Heroes of Langya Mountain", etc., as well as the New Year paintings of the army and the civilians. The works are now collected in important art museums in China, Britain, France, and the United States. As a result, Yan Han entered his first creative peak-the "liberated area woodcut" period, and became the main representative of the "liberated area printmaking movement". In the subsequent land reform movement, Yan Han also created many works reflecting democratic reforms: such as "The Selection of Beans", "Complaints" and "Marching to the Feudal Fortress". After the liberation of the whole country, Yan Han entered his "realism" period. It includes a large frontal relief designed for the Monument to the People's Heroes --- "Victory Across the Yangtze River", and a large number of works reflecting the construction of the new era of socialism have also been completed. In the autumn of 1957, Yan Han, an advocate of innovation, was labeled as a rightist, which became the most painful and darkest period of his life. In the 21-year black years, Yan Han had the deepest insights into human nature, which was shown in the illustrations in Lu Xun's novels. In the spring of 1979, Yan Han's "rightist" hat was taken off, and his creation entered the period of "Romanticism". His works were full of passion, the style tended to be concise, and contained philosophical rationality. After the 1990s, Yan Han's painting style was refreshed again, and the abstract deconstructionist painting style became the main body of Yan Han's art. A survey of Yanhan's works throughout his life can be said to cover all periods of China in this century.

The "Yanhan Art Research Exhibition" held by the National Art Museum of China is a personal exhibition for the purpose of professional research, which is very academic. The exhibition is divided into three parts as a whole. The first part introduces Yanhan's life and artistic evolution in the form of words and pictures. The second part exhibits Yanhan's main representative works from various periods and the most representative oil paintings, ink paintings and prints from the late 1990s. The third part is the works that Yanhan donated to the museum and his handwritten collection-"Art Handbook Collection".
